Nashirah is incredibly fortunate to have Jonathan Coopersmith as its musical leader. Mr. Coopersmith is the chair of Music Studies at the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music where he has been teaching harmony, counterpoint, music history, and solfege for a number of years. Along with his noteworthy background in choral, instrumental and operatic conducting he maintains a studio for individual students of composition and conducting.
A native of Princeton, Jonathan Coopersmith has been the Associate Conductor for The Philadelphia Singers since 2002 and on the Musical Studies Faculty at The Curtis Institute of Music since 2004. With The Philadelphia Singers, he conducted the World Premiere of John Duffy's "Interdependence Day," and has conducted on annual performances of "The Philadelphia Singers on Logan Square" which are broadcast nationally over PRI.
